Today marks the official last day for Jon and Jackie Minards as franchisees of The Leather Doctor. As we bid them farewell in their franchisee role, we also take this moment to celebrate their incredible journey, dedication, and contributions to our company over the years.
A Journey of Growth and Success
Jon and Jackie first joined The Leather Doctor family in January 2012, when they purchased their first franchise in Stafford, Brisbane. After two successful years, they made the decision to sell Stafford and take on a new challenge—acquiring the Central Queensland Territory, which included Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Emerald, Bowen, Airlie, and Moranbah in December 2013. They owned this territory for seven years, but after 1.5 years, they leased it to their eldest son and daughter-in-law, who continued to grow the business.
In March 2015, they relocated to Rockhampton to focus on building and servicing the Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Emerald region for over five years. During this time, they also took on the challenge of servicing and growing the Bundaberg Territory for 2.5 years—traveling there every fortnight and staying until all the work was completed.
In 2018, they expanded once again by purchasing the Bundaberg/Hervey Bay area, which their son Corey leased and operated. In 2024, Corey officially purchased the territory, keeping the business within the family.
As their journey progressed, they decided to split and sell the Central Queensland business into two thriving territories (Mackay & Rockhampton) in October 2020—a testament to the strong foundation they built.
A Family Legacy
Jon and Jackie didn’t just grow businesses—they built a legacy. They trained their two sons, Cameron and Corey, along with their daughter-in-laws, to run and manage their own successful territories. Their leadership and mentorship ensured that The Leather Doctor continued to thrive in the hands of the next generation.
A Well-Deserved Semi-Retirement
In December 2020, they embarked on a new chapter by purchasing the Sunshine Coast franchise. After four years of dedicated service, they have officially sold the territory in January 2025 to step into semi-retirement.
While they may no longer be franchisees, their expertise and passion remain invaluable. Jon and Jackie will continue to provide training and support to new franchisees, ensuring their knowledge and experience are passed on to future Leather Doctors.
